Overview

I collaborated with Down Right Merchandise, a leading entertainment merchandising company, renowned for its bespoke web stores, tour merchandise, and retail distribution services for bands, musicians, and artists.

In response to their growing business and evolving client demands, DEPT spearheaded a swift redesign of Down Right Merchandise's royalty statement system, introducing real-time access for clients and admins to effortlessly manage balances, royalties, and shipments.

Concepts exploring ways that the DRM platform can expand to support other parts of the merchandise procurement process. Pictured above is Customer Support triage for internal employees and also Inventory management for tour managers.

Another way we explored to expand into DRM's other offerings was to support custom shops and provide a way to have them include their branding for the DRM platform.

Along with branding we brainstormed what metrics would be important for them to track that shopify out of the box doesn't offer or isn't relevant when managing their merch stores.

Approach

In a targeted 2-week design sprint, I collaborated closely with the engineering team to revamp Down Right Merchandise's royalty statement experience, with a focus on centralization and scalability.

Emphasizing the importance of the royalty statement experience, we focused on crafting a scalable platform for centralized business management.

We crafted a central portal that empowers clients to edit and view royalty statements in real-time, significantly enhancing transparency and control in the process.

My Contributions

As the lead designer, my role involved managing all client communications and steering design review meetings and stand-ups. Collaborating with another product designer, I delegated tasks, offered feedback, and provided mentoring, ensuring the success of the project.

Learnings

Bringing an engineer into the project from the start is a game-changer, making the journey to an MVP unbelievably smoother. By ditching the traditional handoff between designers and developers and fostering a true partnership where every idea carries equal weight, we not only eliminated bottlenecks but also delivered a practical set of features within a realistic timeline, aligning seamlessly with the capabilities of our engineering team.
